What Is a Dental Appliance?
Sometimes, maintaining good oral health is more than just brushing and flossing. For those of us who play sports, clench or grind our teeth or snore, dental appliances can help preserve and protect our oral structures as well as the health of our whole bodies.
Dental appliances offered at Forest City Dental — such as mouthguards and devices to help those with sleep apnea — are used to aid in the protection of your oral health.
Snoring & Sleep Apnea Appliances
Sleep disorders can disrupt your sleep and negatively impact your overall health and well-being.
When patients snore, their throat tissues are relaxed and cause the airway to narrow, resulting in the snoring sound as oxygen is pushed through. Patients with sleep apnea have throat tissues that are too relaxed, which causes them to block the airway and force the brain to wake them up to breathe.
At Forest City Dental, we provide custom-fitted oral appliances to move the lower jaw and tongue muscles in order to help open up the airway. This helps alter the flow of breath and prevents waking throughout the night.
Custom-Fitted Mouthguards
We offer custom-made mouthguards that fit over your teeth to protect them from damage.
Sports Mouthguards
If you are hit in the mouth while participating in sports, a mouthguard acts as a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissue of your mouth, protecting your smile.
Nightguards
If you grind your teeth during sleep, a mouthguard will help protect your teeth from damage. Similarly, a mouthguard will also help prevent you from clenching your jaw while you sleep and help provide some pain relief.
