At Forest City Dental in London, our dentists offer dental sedation options to help make patients more comfortable during dental surgery.
What Is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation is a term used to describe a number of treatments used to make patients more comfortable during dental surgery. Our dentists can help you decide if dental sedation is a suitable option for your dental operation.
At Forest City Dental, we aim to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their dental appointments. We try to work with you at your pace, take breaks when you need them and provide calm reassurance as needed.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is inhaled through the mouth and nose. The medication allows patients to remain awake during a procedure while helping to calm them. It also tends to lessen anxiety, increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and make time pass more quickly.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedatives are pills or liquids prescribed by your dentist. The medication is taken orally in advance of a dental appointment and leaves you awake for the procedure but produces a calming effect that is designed to significantly relax you.
IV Sedation
IV sedatives are administered directly into the bloodstream through the vein for the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia. The dental team will likely attach you to a monitor so that the dentist can keep track of vital signs during the surgery.
